Pope Francis 17 December 1936 – 21 April 2025

In these days in which contemplate the Mysteries of Salvation, the death and Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, together with the whole Church, and with all people of good will, we mourn the death of our beloved Pope Francis, passed into eternity on May 21, filled with the Pasqual joy and hope that he entered eternal Life in God.
As Sister Disciples of the Divine Master, we are grateful for the gift of the visit of Pope Francis in our Roman house, in via Portuense, on May 30, 2024, for the occasion of his meeting with priests of the Diocese of Rome ordained in the last ten years. The Holy Father’s visit in the Centenary Year of our Foundation was a gift and blessing for our Congregation.

Below we are relaying the message of Sr. M. Bernardita Meráz Sotelo, our Superior General, following the news of the death of Pope Francis:

Dear Sisters,
The news of the return of our beloved Pope Francis to the house of the Heavenly Father caught us by surprise!
The Resurrection of Jesus, which we are celebrating throughout the Church, encourages us to accept in faith and in the certainly that Jesus is the fullness of Life for our dear Pope, who is now in Paradise.
Let us unite ourselves with the entire Church in the hope that comes only from the risen Jesus, and give heartfelt thanks for the life of our Holy Father, Francis. He taught us the Gospel translated in simplicity and truth, in love for the poor and for all of humanity, a true light of wisdom for the Church and for the entire world.
With grateful hearts, as Sister Disciples of the Divine Master, we unite ourselves to the unceasing supplication of the pilgrim Church in the world during this Jubilee Year. In these first days of the Easter Octave, let us always find in the risen Jesus the way, life, consolation, and light.
Together with the pilgrim Church we accept this sorrow, filled with faith from our Risen Master!

Sr. M. Bernardita Meráz Sotelo, Superior General
