Jubilee Pilgrims' shell

Shell is a universal symbol of a pilgrim.

We know that it’s use began with the pilgrims going to Santiago de Compostela: this was the only way they could distinguish those pilgrims who completed their journey to Santiago. At that time, the pilgrims who completed their journey to Santiago received a certificate and a scallop shell to attach to their hat or cloak.

With the pilgrim’s shell, they were able to distinguish the pilgrims returning home from those who were arriving.

It is with joy and gratitude that we live this Jubilee of 2025. The Sister Disciples of the Divine Master wish you a year of grace, of renewal, in faith, in hope and in charity. With the shell, remember and renew your Baptism: it is a bath of regeneration for the children of God. Each day we must die to sin and be raised with Christ.

Ceramic shells are available in our Liturgical Centres.

The 2025 Jubilee will officially open on December 24, 2024, at 7pm with a Mass presided over by Pope Francis in St. Peter's Square.
